Ancelotti calls out Madrid players for complaining about the referee

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has strongly criticized his players for excessive complaints to the referee following their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Real Mallorca. This comes in the backdrop of consistent criticisms of referees by Real Madrid TV throughout the season.

Ancelotti’s stern words came after Mallorca committed 15 fouls compared to Real Madrid’s 5, resulting in only three bookings for Mallorca and two for Los Blancos, including one for Rodrygo Goes for dissent.

The post-match press conference witnessed Ancelotti addressing issues related to the referee, expressing dissatisfaction with the team’s conduct. “He is young, this referee has quality; there have been small details, with cards. We protested a lot, too much in my opinion; that is not good,” Ancelotti stated.

“We have to understand that you cannot earn yellow cards for protesting; I don’t like it. He could have been a bit more accurate, but he is a young and talented referee,” he added, emphasizing the need for improved player behavior on the field.

Ancelotti’s comments resonate with recent concerns about Real Madrid players’ reactions to referee decisions, as highlighted by Real Madrid TV. The consistent criticism from the club’s media outlet adds weight to Ancelotti’s call for more discipline and composure from the squad, particularly in matters of dissent.

In a related development, Vinicius Junior, who returned from injury against Mallorca, has been advised by Ancelotti and teammates to focus less on referees and more on his football. This advice aligns with the broader call for improved player behavior on the field. Meanwhile, Jude Bellingham, another player under scrutiny, has been displaying signs of frustration with referees in recent matches.

The incident involving Mason Greenwood against Granada has set a standard for player behavior, with suggestions that he was fortunate to avoid a sending off.

As Real Madrid looks to maintain its position in various competitions, the coaching staff and players alike will need to address these behavioral concerns to ensure a more focused and disciplined approach on the field. Ancelotti’s message is clear: less attention to the referee and more to the game.
