This afternoon, Turkey revealed its preliminary squad for Euro 2024, with head coach Vincenzo Montella selecting 35 players. Among the promising talents is Arda Güler, the young Real Madrid star who has been impressive in recent games. Montella will need to reduce the squad by nine players before June 7, with friendlies against Italy and Poland set to be crucial in finalizing the team.

 Key Players and Montella’s Strategy

Vincenzo Montella, formerly of Sevilla, is guiding Turkey through a challenging group stage that includes Georgia, Portugal, and the Czech Republic. Turkey is considered a favorite to advance alongside Portugal. Turkey’s last significant Euro performance was in 2008, reaching the semifinals.

Central to Montella’s plan is Hakan Çalhanoğlu of Inter Milan, who has excelled in a deeper midfield role. He will be supported by Borussia Dortmund’s Salih Özcan and possibly Benfica’s Orkun Kökçü.

 Emerging Talents

In attacking midfield, Arda Güler (Real Madrid) and Kenan Yıldız (Juventus) stand out. Güler has shown great promise at Real Madrid, earning his spot in the preliminary squad. Can Uzun of Nuremberg is another young player to watch.

On the left wing, Kerem Aktürkoğlu from Galatasaray adds speed and creativity, supporting Enes Ünal of Bournemouth, who will spearhead the attack.

 Defensive Concerns

Defensively, Turkey is strong on the flanks with Roma’s Zeki Çelik and Fenerbahçe’s Ferdi Kadıoğlu. However, the central defense is a concern. Players like Çağlar Söyüncü (Fenerbahçe), Merih Demiral (Al-Ahli), Ozan Kabak (Hoffenheim), and Cenk Özkaçar (Valencia) must step up to protect goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır from Trabzonspor.

 Looking Ahead

As Turkey prepares for Euro 2024, the friendlies against Italy and Poland will be key for Montella to decide his final squad. The mix of experienced players and young talents gives hope for a strong performance, potentially surpassing their 2008 semifinal achievement.

With a strategic coach and a promising squad, Turkey is ready to make an impact at Euro 2024. Fans are eager to see how Montella’s team performs and whether they can turn potential into success on the European stage.
