Arda Güler is poised for a breakout performance on the international stage. The young Turkish midfielder, who ended his season at Real Madrid in spectacular fashion, now leads a promising generation of Turkish talents, including Kenan Yildiz and Semih Kiliçsoy, into Euro 2024.

A Stellar Season at Real Madrid

Güler’s late-season performances for Real Madrid have been exceptional. Overcoming early physical and adaptation challenges, he showcased his immense talent and scoring prowess. Recognizing his potential, Turkey’s coach Vincenzo Montella has positioned Güler on the left side of the national team’s formation, eager to harness his club form.

Montella, who discussed Güler’s development with Carlo Ancelotti early in the season, is now optimistic about the young star’s impact. Güler has consistently found the net, scoring six goals in just 440 minutes for Real Madrid—an impressive rate of one goal every 74 minutes, even better in the league with a goal every 63 minutes.

 A Rising Star

Güler is poised to shine at Euro 2024, competing with young talents like Lamine Yamal, Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz, and Xavi Simons for the title of the tournament’s breakout player. A strong performance in Germany would bolster his reputation and secure his place in Ancelotti’s plans for next season, despite the arrivals of stars like Kylian Mbappé and Endrick.

Ancelotti views Güler as integral to Real Madrid’s future, especially with Toni Kroos’ departure and Luka Modric’s reduced role. Güler’s ability to perform under pressure and his knack for scoring could make him a key player for Real Madrid in the coming seasons.

 Turkey’s Euro 2024 Prospects

Turkey enters Euro 2024 as a dark horse. With a young, talented squad, they have the potential to advance to the knockout stages. Portugal is the favorite in their group, but second place is up for grabs, and Turkey could progress as one of the best third-placed teams, contending with Czechia and Georgia.

Montella’s focus on youth development is clear. He wants his young stars, including Güler, to gain valuable experience both at the tournament and within their club environments. “We will be one of the youngest teams in the Euro Cup. As a coach, I want my players to gain experience. They should also find time in their own clubs to gain experience. We are talking about three players who have a very solid future if they do not lose their balance. They will be very important players not only now but also in the future,” Montella said in March.

 A Promising Future

Güler’s form at Real Madrid, where he scored five goals in five games from matchday 33 onward, sets a promising stage for his Euro 2024 campaign. His clinical finishing and decisive play make him a standout player to watch.

Despite Turkey not being among the favorites, Güler’s determination and talent could lead to surprising outcomes. With only six caps and one goal for Turkey so far, this tournament represents a significant opportunity for Güler. He is seeking to make a substantial impact and further his development as one of Europe’s brightest young stars.
