Brahim Díaz opts out of Africa Cup amidst Spain consideration

After rumors hinted at the possibility of Brahim Díaz joining the Moroccan national team for the Africa Cup, it is now official that the Real Madrid player will not be part of the North African squad.

Earlier today, coach Walid Regragui unveiled the 27-player list for the tournament in Ivory Coast, scheduled from January 13 to February 11. Surprisingly, none of the five La Liga players on the list included the Madridista.

This means that Real Madrid avoids losing Brahim Díaz for several matches, as Morocco, the fourth-placed team in the last World Cup, is considered one of the favorites to lift the Africa Cup.

On the flip side, with the confirmation of Díaz not participating for Morocco, he remains in contention for a call-up by Luis De La Fuente for the Spanish national team.

This possibility is not far-fetched, especially considering Díaz’s improved performance in December, where he emerged as the club’s best player, contributing with two goals and an assist in five matches, after a challenging start to the league season.
