Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti spoke to the media after last night’s loss to Barcelona. During the interview, the Italian was asked about one of the main talking points during the game, which was Vinicius Junior taking a penalty.

The penalty arrived in the 20th minute of the Clásico, and majority of spectators would have thought in the absence of Luka Modric on the field, Rodrygo was going to take the penalty. There was a bit of surprise when Vinicius Junior stepped up to shoot the penalty.

The Brazilian hit the ball right, powerful drive sending the goalkeeper the wrong way but unfortunately too high that it struck the woodwork. Real Madrid came close to scoring on so many occasions but never had it during the game. The 14-time European champions had 29 shots in the game, hitting the woodwork 5 times.

Speaking to the media after the game on who is responsible for penalty kicks now, Carlo Ancelotti said: “We’re trying things out. Modrić, who usually takes them, was missing. It could be Vini Jr, Modrić or Rodrygo. Vini jr. missed today, but he’s a very good penalty taker.”

The coach confirmed that after the Benzema era, Luka Modric will be the first penalty taker whenever he is on the pitch, and also defended his star player Vinicius Junior.
