After months of speculation and numeorous rumours, the almost inevitable has been confirmed. Brazil have finally gotten their man. Real Madrid’s pre-match press conferences for the final games of last season were filled with many rumours, most of them questions directed towards head coach Carlo Ancelotti.

For several weeks, he was asked: “will you be joining Brazil”. The Italian manager’s response was always in unison: “I have a contract with Real Madrid and I hope to fulfill it”. It seemed Ancelotti had already made his mind to continue for one more year in Spain, with his contract ending in 2024.

Brazil, especially Ednaldo Rodrigues who is the president of the country’s football association never gave up on the pursuit of the Italian manager. In one of his statements made prior to the end of the season in Europe, he said: “We are working hard and we still believe in Plan A, which is Ancelotti. We have friendlies in Spain and Portugal and then we will have more clarity on this.”

Carlo Ancelotti will join the Brazil national team as head coach in 2024 and lead the team into the Copa America that same year. This was confirmed in a statement made by the president of the Brazilian football federation Ednaldo Rodrigues: “The new interim coach will arrive and make the transition from the Brazilian team to coach Ancelotti, who will take over there for the Copa América.”

Fluminense coach Fernando Diniz is set to become Brazil’s new interim coach, until Carlo Ancelotti arrives in 2024.Thus, Ancelotti achieves his goal of finishing his Real Madrid contract and taking over the Brazilian national team.

In his words last December after winning the Diario AS best coach of the 2021/2022 season, Ancelotti said: “Coaching Brazil? I might consider coaching a national team at the end of my career but I like and prefer to have a relationship with the players here (Real Madrid) every day. It’s an honor to receive this award, just like coaching Real Madrid.”

Real Madrid now have to go into the market in search of a new head coach at the end of the upcoming season. Which manager do you think will lead Los Blancos after Carlo Ancelotti?
