Real Madrid suffered a huge setback over the weekend when star forward Vinicius Junior was substituted in the game against Almeria on Friday following an injury scare.

The player touched his right hamstring after going down, but told the medical staff he will continue. Minutes later, he pain aggravated and he came off.

It turns out the injury is more serious that first expected, and he would miss at least a month of action.

The player will undergo further tests in the next hours to determine the extent of the injury.

Amid this uncertainty, head coach Carlo Ancelotti is considering returning to a 4-3-3 formation with new signing Joselu, Rodrygo and Federico Valverde in attack, according to Diario AS.

The 4-3-3 formation has been Real Madrid’s traditional drawing for years, but the unexpected departure of forward Benzema and the arrival of highly rated midfielder Jude Bellingham meant the club has to improvise for quality on the pitch.

A change to a 4-3-3 formation will mean Jude Bellingham may have a different role compared to the one he has had in the first three games of the season.

However, Diario AS emphasize that Carlo Ancelotti will still give the English midfielder the freedom to operate in the opponent’s box, which has led to an inpressive four goals in his first three games.

On paper, the hypothetical new system will favor Rodrygo, who likes to operate from the left. Joselu has also shown that he plays better as a target man, who will benefit from a 4-3-3 rather than with two strikers.

Everything now points to the fact that Vinicius Junior will miss the upcoming international break with what looks certain to be his first muscle injury since joining Real Madrid.
