Real Madrid veteran right-back Dani Carvajal faced questions from the media ahead of Los Blancos’ Champions League clash against Napoli.

The Spaniard spoke about several topics including Lunin’s situation, the calendar and Ancelotti’s future.

Firstly, the 31-year-old noted: “We are totally focused on the match against a very tough rival, Napoli, and with the aim of finishing first in the group.”

The calendar

“It is very demanding. I agree with the mister that they are broken… That fact that there are so many injuries is not normal. Being one hundred percent every three days is complicated. The players have the power to do something. Not all players have so many games. It’s a rather complex subject.”

“It’s not a good thing to have so many injuries. When there are injured, the door opens for others who do not have so many minutes. It comes to them and they have to be prepared. Sometimes this unites a little more.”

Lowering salary and calendar

“It’s something complex. It’s quite complicated. If we have to lower the salary we will do it. We have never said that we would not lower our salary.”

Effort in the game

“I am a player who is measured very little at the level of efforts, whenever I am on the field I try to give the maximum. Yes, there are times when the body asks me to stop and you already get to know each other when you have so many games. I have to talk about it with the mister and the doctor. Being 100% or another player will do it just as well.”

Barça’s situation

“In the end they are there, with a foot and a half in the Champions League round of 16, fighting for La Liga… and it is being reflected that everything is very equal. If in a few months we have to cross paths with them, then we will give the maximum and overcome them.”

Relationship with Ancelotti

“When I started I was a stranger to him and I fell a little standing up with him. He is the one with whom I have spent the most time, with Zizou. He doesn’t stop reinventing himself, preparing the games. For me, he was there every year that he and the club want. There are few coaches who can do better than Carlo at Real Madrid.”

Rodrygo’s form

“Rodrygo knows that it is Madrid, in three games without scoring, criticism rains on you. I’m glad he got the pressure off the goals. When he is on a streak and starts scoring, the team notices it. I hope the streak is long because he gives us a lot.”

The youth team

“The Madrid youth team is the best in the world. I see the young people ready (for the first team).”

The Lunin-Kepa debate

“He’s (Lunin) a professional like the top of a pine tree. He is a very introverted boy, but I want to congratulate him because he has always been up to the task, he has helped us a lot. Every time he has played, he has done very well. Whoever plays is already the decision of the master.”

Ancelotti’s future

“I would renew Carlo Ancelotti’s contract tomorrow but obviously here if we don’t win anything the first blame will go to him. We all know how great he is and how hard he works.”
