Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy recently spoke about the rumors surrounding his supposed involvement in Kylian Mbappé’s decision to stay at Paris Saint-Germain.

With Kylian Mbappé’s contract at Paris Saint-Germain is due to run out next summer, Sarkozy talked about surrounding his supposed involvement in Kylian Mbappé’s choice to stay at Paris Saint-Germain and extend his contract in May 2022, rather than moving to Real Madrid.

Sarkozy addressed these claims during an interview on Antena 3’s Espejo Público, as seen on LaSexta’s Jugones, via Marca.

In the interview, Susanna Griso, the program’s host, asked the Former French President Sarkozy directly, “How did you convince Mbappé to stay in France?” Sarkozy, with a smile, denied any involvement: “No, I had nothing to do with it. I didn’t play that role.”

Regardless of the truth, Sarkozy expressed his happiness that the PSG star chose not to join Real Madrid: “I know Florentino Pérez well, and I think highly of him. But Mbappé stayed in Paris. Why? That’s not so important. What matters is that he stayed. I was pleased about that. Real Madrid is the best team globally; it sets an example.”

On May 21, 2022, Mbappé surprised many by changing his mind about leaving PSG for Real Madrid and ultimately deciding to renew his contract. There was speculation about various influencers, including politicians, in this unexpected turn of events.

Additionally, the former French President mentioned that he doesn’t know about the future plans of the French football sensation, stating, “I am not Kylian’s spokesperson. I know him, and I like him.

Kylian Mbappé’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain will end next summer, means he would be available to negotiate with any club in January. Real Madrid reportedly prepared to give him an offer in early January.
