Kylian Mbappé and Real Madrid: A never ending story

Since 2017, Real Madrid has been pursuing Kylian Mbappe, at that time, he was at Monaco and was 18 years of age.

The youngster garnered interest all around Europe and top teams were vying for his signature but his heart was set at Madrid from childhood and had many boyhood posters of Real Madrid Legends.

Eventually, the transfer didn’t materialize and he signed for Paris Saint Germain for a huge fee of €180 million to ply his trade in the beautiful city of Paris.

Fast forward to 2023,he’s overtook PSG’s all time highest goal scorers chart a few months back beating Cavani’s 201 goals. Currently, the talented sensation has scored 229 goals in about 5 years. A feat Cavani couldn’t achieve in his 7 years in the France capital.

Real Madrid nearly secured his signature in the summer of 2021 with a gigantic €200 million offer snubbed by PSG even though the forward’s heart was set at joining the Spanish Capital. He ended up extending his contract with PSG to 2024.

Last summer, the rumors of the French International interested in a switch were popular in the media but Real Madrid constantly delayed any claim about an official offer being sent. The French forward refused to extend his contract beyond 2024 and all talks regarding that have stalled.

The rumors are back again for a possible switch this summer and it seems more realistic than ever, with his contract expiring in the upcoming summer window, a switch now looks more possible than ever.

Real Madrid are expected to spend a gigantic fee for his signature. Even though he’s worth €180 million as per, transfermarkt, the club is likely to spend less than that for his signature him being a free agent. The player is expected to demand €80-€100 million for a signing bonus and a gross salary of about €50 million.
