Lunin seizes opportunity as Kepa faces uncertainty

Kepa Arrizabalaga is almost ruled out for the upcoming match against Cádiz on Sunday at Nuevo Mirandilla, still recovering from a muscle injury sustained in the warm-up before the Braga game.

On Tuesday, Kepa balanced gym and field work during Madrid’s return to training.

With Kepa’s likely absence, Lunin gets another chance to build confidence and prominence in Madrid’s goal, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Ukrainian goalkeeper played a pivotal role against Braga, saving a penalty early in the game minutes after learning he would start that night.

Lunin’s standout performance continued against Valencia, making two crucial saves in the first half with a 1-0 lead for Carlo Ancelotti’s team.

In the current season, Lunin has featured in four matches, including the first two Liga games against Athletic and Almería, as well as the Braga and Valencia fixtures.

His performance has been positive, conceding only two goals and keeping a clean sheet twice.

Although not called up by Ukraine for the break due to minor issues, Lunin is expected to be in the lineup against Cádiz.

His solid performances, coupled with uncertainties surrounding Kepa’s inconsistent form, could signal a turning point in Madrid’s goalkeeping choices in the upcoming matches.
