Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has been advised by a Belgian journalist to consider leaving the Etihad Stadium for Real Madrid this summer.

According tho Football365, this recommendation comes amid ongoing speculation about Pep Guardiola’s future at Manchester City and potential changes within the squad.

City clinched the Premier League title on the final day of the season by defeating West Ham, securing the championship by a narrow margin over Arsenal.

However, their campaign had its disappointments, including an undeserved exit from the Champions League quarter-finals at the hands of Real Madrid and a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup final.

Guardiola’s future has been a hot topic, with his contract set to expire at the end of the next season. The manager himself has hinted at a possible departure, stating that he is “closer to leaving than staying” at Manchester City, with many expecting his exit in 2025.

Adding to the uncertainty is the impending hearing over City’s 115 charges for alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial fair play rules, which could result in significant penalties if they are found guilty.

Belgian journalist Filip Joos suggested that De Bruyne may no longer be central to Guardiola’s plans, especially after being substituted in the FA Cup final. Joos commented, “That’s a hard change because it says something about how the coach sees you.

Guardiola would never have done this with Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. Not even with the best De Bruyne, but a slightly inferior De Bruyne can still be trusted. I say: ‘Go!’ Go and replace Kroos. If De Bruyne now goes to the top [leaders] of Man City and says: ‘I have been good here for so long, but I am 32 and it is my last chance.

Real want me and I would really like to do that.’ Is he going or not? I think so. I think he has built up such a status that City would allow it.”

Jack Grealish, another key player, has also been linked with a move away from Manchester City. Despite being a high-profile signing, Grealish started only ten Premier League matches this season. Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness suggested that Grealish hasn’t been utilized effectively under Guardiola, adding fuel to the rumors of his potential departure.

Wyness told Football Insider, “I think Guardiola has built a very good nucleus, he’s been able to freshen things up with just one or two new moves each summer. That’s what I think he’ll carry on this year – there’s no need for any major surgery.

It just needs to be refreshed slightly, and that’s what I think he’ll do. I’ve always felt that Grealish, who I had at Villa, hasn’t been played properly. That may be one question mark, whether Jack stays or not. We’ll have to wait and see but I can certainly see him leaving. I don’t see too much movement in this City squad.”

These potential departures come at a pivotal time for Manchester City, with Guardiola’s possible exit and the looming financial fair play investigation.

The club might undergo significant changes in the near future, and how they handle these transitions will be crucial for maintaining their competitive edge.

As the summer transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on Manchester City to see how they navigate these challenges and whether stars like De Bruyne and Grealish will stay or seek new opportunities elsewhere.
