Nacho gives update on Modric’s future

For months, Luka Modric was set to renew his contract with Real Madrid amid interest from Saudi Arabia. The player himself frequently counted how he would want to end his amazing career at the Bernabeu. However, recent reports point to a huge offer from Saudi Arabia which is impossible to reject and has caused the 2018 Ballon d’or winner to rethink his decision.

Football journalist Romain Molina reports that Al Sadd in Qatar have offered Modric a deal to end his career at the club and then become the coach of the team when he retires. “Of course I want to retire in Madrid, I’ve said that many times. You can’t say anything for 100 per cent, but that’s my idea, and it’s a dream for me”, Luka said in December last year.

Real Madrid now have 7 midfielders in the team after securing the services of Englishman Jude Bellingham. The congestion in midfield could lead to Modric finding the exit door this summer, especially with Real Madrid keen on rebuilding a tram and not standing in the way of any veteran that chooses to leave.

Newly named club captain Nacho Fernandez has shared an update on the Croatian’s future when asked about his teammate during an interview from the Spanish national team camp. Nacho stated: “Will Modrić leave? I don’t think so. I knew he would stay after the last game of the season. I know him and I think he will stay at Real Madrid.”

Modric played 52 games in the just ended season for Los Blancos, scoring 6 and assisting 6. Reliable reports from Spain say his renewal has already been signed, just like his midfield colleague Toni Kroos but just as it happened with Casemiro and Benzema, all the veteran players have earned a right to decide their future and the club will not be a hindrance to their decisions.
