Nacho speaks to the media ahead of Champions League clash against Braga

Real Madrid captain Nacho faced questions from the media ahead of his side’s Champions League matchday four fixture against Braga.

Los Blancos have had a fairly decent season so far, losing once in 15 games and winning 13.

Last Sunday’s goalless draw at home to Rayo Vallecano will set the stage for a massive comeback in midweek.

Real Madrid will be tasked with putting up a great performance in front of their home crowd after failing to do so during the weekend.

Los Blancos have been drawn in a fixture list where they play three consecutive times at home; Rayo, Braga and Valencia.

Before the game however, Nacho Fernández faced questions from the media.

On Arda Güler

“Arda Güler is very young, he has an incredible talent. He is made to play in Madrid, he must prove it, but he is already recovered and he wants to play. We want to see him. His potential is incredible.”

Bellingham

“I said it at the time, he has Real Madrid DNA, he is a fighter and winner, he only cares about competing and winning. And he has started in the best way, scoring goals. He has shown that he is able to play here.”

On the captaincy

“Very well, last year I had the experience of finishing the contract and I want to enjoy the day to day, without thinking about anything else. I’m happy to be the first captain, but it doesn’t change anything. The responsibility is the same, the goal is the same.”

Vinicius Junior

“We have talked to him a lot, perhaps he is the type of player who feels more provocations than anyone else, he always faces, always harms the opponent. We talked to him so that he can be calm. He is changing little by little, he has a lot of character. If Puyol wants to talk to Vinicius, it’s up to him. Here he is well taken care of, we treat him very well.”

Expectation to play more…

“Throughout my life my role has been different from Modric’s, he is the usual starter, I have always had to face things in a different way. I have played a lot, the injuries have opened more minutes for me. Now I feel good, I enjoy the day to day. I don’t want last year’s thing to happen to me.”

Lack of goals

“We have changed the way we play a lot. The characteristics are very different. We are at a good time, winning matches, we didn’t want the draw against Rayo, but we are looking forward to continuing. Rodrygo and Vinicius are going to score a lot of goals.”

Eager for minutes

“I fight to play the big games too, my goal is to play as much as possible. But at this point I have been a starter in all the Champions League matches. I try to enjoy everything.”

Youth players transitioning to first team

“It’s a joy every time boys come up [to the first team], it’s good for them to prepare to play here or outside. That jump is more complicated here than in other places. Not only in Madrid, there have to be situations and that give you the opportunity, there are none at the moment, but there is a great youth side with a lot of level. They are prepared for everything. I hope there will be many more boys in the first team.”

Provocations to Vini

“It may be that in Champions League it is all calmer, I can’t say why, the ideal is that everything goes as in the Champions League but we all work so that everything softens little by little. Vini knows it, that’s how he gives his maximum level.”

Wednesday’s opponents

“It’s a very dynamic team, in their last match they scored six goals. We must be focused to keep a clean sheet.”
