Real Madrid agree verbal deal to sign Alphonso Davies
Real Madrid have reached a verbal agreement with Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies, according to The Athletic.
The 23-year-old Canadian international is a highly sought-after talent, and has attracted interest from numerous clubs, including Barcelona and teams in England. However, Davies’ preference is reportedly to move to the Spanish capital.
Two options are currently on the table:
- Summer transfer for a below-market price: Similar to Toni Kroos’ move in 2014, Real Madrid are open to acquiring Davies this summer for a lower fee.
- Free transfer in 2025: If a deal cannot be reached this year, Real Madrid would wait until Davies’ contract expires at Bayern Munich in 2025 to sign him for free.
While securing Kylian Mbappe remains Real Madrid’s primary transfer target for the summer, acquiring Davies wouldn’t necessarily prevent the French superstar from joining as well.
Davies has established himself as a key player for Bayern Munich since his arrival in 2019.
He has won five Bundesliga titles with the club and was part of their Champions League-winning team in 2020. He has also scored one goal and provided three assists in 27 appearances across all competitions this season.
This potential transfer represents a significant step for Real Madrid in strengthening their defensive options. Davies’ attacking prowess and experience at the highest level make him a valuable addition to the squad.
However, whether the deal materializes this summer or in 2025 remains to be seen, as negotiations with Bayern Munich are yet to begin.
