Real Madrid cannot let Perez’s obsession with Mbappé ruin their transfer market again

The Kylian Mbappé saga has been a main stay in the Real Madrid transfer market since the 2018 season, when he was 19. And it is has affected the transfer policies for Real Madrid. It’s what you can call some sort of ‘Canon Event’ for Madridistas where no matter what you try to think of, the possibility of Kylian Mbappé joining los blancos is too pleasurable to ignore. But how has this affected Real Madrid negatively!? Here are few reasons.

The Kylian Mbappé saga has been a main stay in the Real Madrid transfer market since the 2018 season, when he was 19. And it is has affected the transfer policies for Real Madrid. It’s what you can call some sort of ‘Canon Event’ for Madridistas where no matter what you try to think of; the possibility of Kylian Mbappé joining Los Blancos is too pleasurable to ignore.

But how has this affected Real Madrid negatively!? Here are few reasons.

In the summer of 2022 Real Madrid missed out on a very obvious Erling Haaland deal, while waiting for Mbappé to decide if he renews with Paris Saint Germain or not. With an aging Karim Benzema and no real replacement for the French Balón d’or winner, the club’s president Florentino Perez had his eye set on another French future Balón d’or winner, all these delay ultimately ended with Haaland joining Manchester City and then a Kylian Mbappé renewal with Paris Saint Germain, which meant Real Madrid had to hold on to Karim Benzema for one more season and that also without a deputy in sight.

It gets even worse, Fast forward to 2023. Real Madrid are strong in the market financially and want to sign two Marquee players, [A midfielder and A striker ]. And while the Midfielder was sorted out as soon as possible without distractions or delay, the Jude Bellingham’s transfer was one of the most straightforward deals madridistas have witnessed in a while, even with the interest from Liverpool and both Manchester clubs, the English man turned down the opportunity to return to the Premiership and chose to play for his dream club “Real Madrid”.

On the flip side Real Madrid also had a strong hand in deals for either : Harry Kane, Lautaro Martinez or Victor Osimhen.

But there was reluctance on the part of the club and especially Perez to move forward with signing any of the above players.

And the reluctancy was fueled by the hope and ambition of the most recent Kylian Mbappé saga ending with him boarding a flight to the Spanish capital as his new home.

In the prime of Mbappé’s dispute with Paris Saint Germain, and after he was banished to the B-team for leaking information in his contract that stated he could leave on a free transfer that summer if he chooses to give up the hefty loyalty bonus, Real Madrid simultaneously dropped all interest in other forwards as signing both Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé in the same window would be a statement for the whole of Europe to contend with.

Real Madrid even went on to approve a Karim Benzema departure. So Kylian Mbappé could take up the iconic number 9 Jersey of Los Merengues.

It only took a few weeks and a few more million pounds for Paris Saint Germain to resolve their issues with Mbappé and Real Madrid became the ones who lost out in the end because other transfer targets [Osimhen and Lautaro] signed new contracts with their respective clubs and the main Marquee striker [ Harry Kane ] had made a big money move to Bayern Munich.

Real Madrid had to quickly sign Joselu Mato on loan to make up for the lack in the Striker’s position. Leaving the number 9 position empty for the season.

Another summer window is fast approaching, a couple months from now, will Real Madrid still allow Florentino Perez continue chasing the Kylian Mbappé dream or will the focus shift on to another player.

Florentino Perez has never lost before and he has a plan for every situation, Endrick will join in the summer and if the Mbappé dream doesn’t materialize it would be fun to see if the Brazilian wonder-kid gets given the Number 9 jersey and is integrated into the team to partner and grow with fellow Brazilians [ Vinicius and Rodrygo] in the front line.
