Real Madrid has officially announced the departure of defender Jesus Vallejo, who has joined Granada on loan for the 2023/24 season. Speculation surrounding Vallejo’s loan move gained momentum, and it quickly became apparent that a transfer to Granada was on the cards.

The confirmation came through an official statement from Real Madrid, which read, “Real Madrid CF and Granada CF have agreed on the loan of the player Jesus Vallejo for this season, until June 30, 2024.”

Vallejo, who joined Real Madrid in 2015, has primarily spent his time away on loan. He has had loan spells at Real Zaragoza, VfB Stuttgart, Wolves, and Granada (twice). This will be his third temporary stint with Granada, showcasing his familiarity with the club.

His initial loan move to Granada took place in January 2020, where he spent the second half of the 2019/20 campaign. Vallejo returned to Granada in the summer of 2020 for the entire 2020/21 season. During his combined 18-month tenure at Granada, the 26-year-old defender made 51 appearances, surpassing his appearances for Real Madrid (31).

Vallejo’s opportunities at Real Madrid have been limited in recent seasons since his return from his loan spell at Granada. With manager Carlo Ancelotti making it clear that the defender does not feature in his plans, Vallejo has made the decision to return to familiar surroundings at Granada. He will be eager to impress during the 2023/24 season and revive his career at the club.

The loan move provides Vallejo with an opportunity to gain valuable playing time and showcase his abilities, potentially securing a more prominent role in the future. Meanwhile, Granada will benefit from the services of an experienced defender who is eager to make a significant impact in their upcoming campaign.
