Real Madrid’s defense has taken a blow with the news that Dani Carvajal will miss upcoming matches due to a muscle injury.

The right-back’s absence will be felt as he has been the team’s most consistent defender so far this season.

Absent from training

During the final training session before facing Union Berlin in the Champions League, there was a notable absentee from the squad.

Journalists present reported that right back Carvajal was not training with the team.

It was later reported by El Chiringuito’s José Luis Sanchez that the Spaniard had suffered a muscle injury and will miss the game on Wednesday night.

The 31-year-old’s injury comes at a crucial time, with important fixtures against Union Berlin and Atletico de Madrid on the horizon.

Who replaces him?

Carvajal’s injury means that Lucas Vázquez will have to step in as a makeshift right-back.

Head coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed in the pre-match press conference after training that Vázquez will indeed start on Wednesday night.

While the Spaniard has proven to be versatile, his natural position is as a winger rather than a defender.

This change in defensive structure could potentially leave Real Madrid vulnerable at the back.

The extent of Carvajal’s injury is yet to be determined, as he will undergo further tests to assess the severity. Reports from sources in Spain however start that he could be out for around ten days.

Depending on the results, Carvajal could be sidelined for a longer or shorter period of time.

Considering his history, Real Madrid is likely to adopt a cautious approach and only allow him back on the field when he has fully recovered.

Carvajal’s ability to stay healthy throughout last season was commendable, and fans will be hoping that he can avoid further setbacks once he returns from this injury.

Real Madrid will undoubtedly miss the defender’s presence on the pitch, but the team will be eager to support him in his recovery and ensure he returns stronger than ever.

In the meantime, it will be crucial for Real Madrid’s other players to step up and fill the void left by Carvajal’s absence.

The team must focus on maintaining a solid defensive structure and finding alternative solutions to compensate for the defender’s absence.

This challenge will put the squad’s depth and adaptability to the test.
