Real Madrid’s right back position is one that has been a topic for many months. The club currently has two traditional right backs; Carvajal and Odriozola.

However, all indications are that Odriozola will be on his way out of the club this summer and he does not count in coach Carlo Ancelotti’s plans.

Much debate has been raised about the position. Many times, the team comes up against opponents with fast paced wingers and the right back is mostly visibly the loose end.

The highlight of this was when Real Madrid faced French side Paris Saint-Germain in the 2021/2022 season.

In both legs of the tie, French captain Kylian Mbappé gave right back Dani Carvajal tough nights, even conceding a penalty in the first leg.

It is clear that the club has won a lot with Carvajal, but age and the modern game evolving is taking its toll on the 31-year-old.

It is now clear that the club will not sign a right back this summer, which leaves Carvajal as the first option and a makeshift replacement, Lucas Vazquez.

Report from Relevo’s Javier ‘Rodra’ Pascual is that Reece James is one of the options for Real Madrid’s right back position next year.

The club’s scouts are impressed with him.

The 23-year-old Englishman was recently named as captain of Premier League side Chelsea.

He unfortunately picked up an injury in the first league game of the season and is expected to spend a few weeks out.

Reece is undoubtedly one of the best right backs in the game, but there are questions over his fitness.

Since the 2019/2020 season, he has suffered several injuries which has led to him missing 83 games (and still counting with his latest setback).

He played 24 games for Chelsea last season in the Premier League and Champions League alone, scoring 2 and assisting another 2.

According to Transfermarkt, his value stands at 65 million euros.
