Captain of the Uruguayan national team at just 25-years-old, Real Madrid midfielder Fede Valverde is cementing his place in world football.

He has been one of Europe’s most outstanding midfielders over the past few seasons.

Valverde Los Blancos in 2016 from Uruguayan club Penarol.

‘El Halcon’ was then loaned to Deportivo La Coruna for the 2017/2018 season before retiring to fight for a place in Real’s first team.

A captain’s project

Tipped to be Real Madrid’s future captain by Spanish newspaper Marca, the 25-year-old already assumed captaincy for his country last Friday.

He wore the armband against Chile. It was later revealed by head coach Marcelo Bielsa as a decision that came from his teammates.

A golden potential rejected

English radio station TalkSport report that the player had a weeklong trial with London based club Arsenal in 2016.

However, former head coach Arsene Wenger who was in charge of the team decided against signing him.

The English club rather chose to sign Granit Xhaka, who joined them that same year.

Real Madrid then showed up to sign the young midfielder, who has been a great investment thus far.

Fede shares experience on trial

In an interview last week, Valverde had words of praise for former Arsenal attacker Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean was at the club during Valverde’s trial: “I have always been grateful to him. When I went to train at Arsenal, Alexis was there and he was one of the few who came up to help me.”

The Uruguayan continued: “I will always be grateful to him because, being a nobody, I was well-received by him. He was there to help me when I was a kid. As a footballer, he is an incredible player.”
