Real Madrid icon Toni Kroos announced his retirement, ending a spectacular decade-long career with the club. Kroos’s announcement came in May, shortly after he lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy for the fifth time with Real Madrid. However, the 34-year-old midfielder will hang up his boots after the ongoing European Championship (Euros).

Kroos’s departure marks the end of an era for Real Madrid, where he has been a pivotal figure in the midfield since his arrival in 2014. His precise passing, strategic vision, and ability to control the tempo of the game made him a cornerstone of the team’s success over the past decade.

As it happens, Kroos will not be the only Real Madrid legend bidding farewell after the Euros. Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the greatest footballers of all time, has also announced his retirement from international football. Ronaldo’s Portugal secured their place in the quarterfinals of the Euros last night by defeating Slovenia in a tense penalty shootout. After the match, the 39-year-old forward confirmed that this tournament would be his last appearance at the Euros.

“This will be my last Euros. Of course,” Ronaldo stated emphatically, leaving no doubt about his decision.

Ronaldo’s announcement brings an end to an illustrious international career. Since his debut for Portugal in 2003, Ronaldo has been a driving force for the national team, leading them to victory in the 2016 Euros and the 2019 Nations League. His scoring prowess and leadership on the field have made him a beloved figure in Portugal and around the world.

Toni Kroos and Cristiano Ronaldo have left indelible marks on both Real Madrid and international football, inspiring countless fans and aspiring players with their talent, dedication, and sportsmanship.

The ongoing Euros will serve as a fitting stage for these legends to showcase their skills one last time, as the football world celebrates their remarkable careers and bids them a fond farewell.
