Following a weekend of heartbreak for Real Madrid fans around the world, defender David Alaba has undergone knee surgery following his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. The Austrian tore his ACL during the game against Villarreal at the Bernabéu on Sunday night.

Bayern offer help

In a recent development, Real Madrid’s David Alaba has undergone successful knee surgery in Austria. The operation took place in Innsbruck and was conducted by Dr. Flink. He is a trusted physician associated with Alaba’s former club, Bayern Munich.

The news was confirmed by Bayern Munich’s former president, Uli Hoeneß, who expressed his attempts to reach out to Alaba. Uli also highlighted the club’s efforts to ensure the player’s surgery was conducted by a doctor they deeply trust. The procedure took place on Tuesday afternoon at 16:00 CET.

Real confirm surgery

Real Madrid issued a statement, stating: “Our player David Alaba underwent successful surgery today for a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee under the supervision of the Real Madrid Medical Services. Alaba will begin his recovery process in the coming days.”

Surgery

David Alaba came off in the 35th minute against Villarreal on Sunday due to an ACL tear

Relevo’s Rodra reported that Alaba is currently resting in Innsbruck without any complications following the surgery. The 31-year-old opted for the procedure in his home country, conducted by Dr. Flink, who has previously operated on Bayern players like Sané and Süle.

Unfortunately, the timing of Alaba’s injury makes it unlikely for him to participate in the upcoming European Championship, dealing a blow to his national team.

This marks the third anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury for Real Madrid this season. Prior to Alaba, Brazilian defender Eder Militão and Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois had also suffered similar injuries, sidelining them since the beginning of the season. The triple blow to Real Madrid’s defensive lineup poses a significant challenge for the team as they navigate their competitions this season.
