There are questions regarding Carlo Ancelotti’s future at the club beyond this season.

As officially agreed, the Italian manager’s contract with Real Madrid ends in the summer of 2024.

At the early stages of this year, numerous reports linked him to taking over the Brazilian national team after former coach Tite left following the World Cup in Qatar.

Tite opens gap for Ancelotti

Tite had been in charge of the Seleção since 2016 when he replaced Dunga.

Following his decision to step down in December 2022, the 62-year-old said: “As I said, my cycle is over. I said it over a year and a half ago.”

Brazil’s Football Federation headed by Ednaldo Rodrigues had Carlo Ancelotti on their list of replacements.

In June 2023, Rodrigues said in an interview: “We are working hard and we still believe in Plan A, which is Ancelotti. We have friendlies in Spain and Portugal and then we will have more clarity on this.”

Sources in Spain have also indicated that Carlo Ancelotti would be attracted to managing the Brazilian national team.

Relevo’s Jorge Picon reported in June that Ednaldo Rodrigues met with Casemiro, Marquinhos, Alisson and Danilo to talk about the new coach. Waiting for Ancelotti until 2024 is no longer ruled out, but it is an option they prefer to avoid.

Ancelotti focused on Madrid

On the part of Carlo Ancelotti, he denied any agreement with the Brazilian Football Federation on a number of occasions.

In his statement, the Real Madrid gaffer stated: “I will never talk about Brazil, about what is going to happen. I’m a Madrid coach and I’m staying. I will not speak of this matter anymore.”

“I have a contract and I’ll stick with it. Renew? I’m not in a hurry, I have total confidence here, let’s see what happens,” he added.

The Brazilian players at Real Madrid have also spoken about the rumours, which Rodrygo stated during the summer break: “Ancelotti to Brazil? Everyone asks me that. I’m on vacation, everyone asks me that and I don’t know what to answer. We joked because we thought it was something that wasn’t going to happen, but out of nowhere it became news.”

The highlight of the reports was when the CBF president said in an interview in July that Ancelotti will take over in 2024.

Brazil appointed Fernando Diniz who will serve an interim role.

In his words, Ednaldo Rodrigues said: “The new interim coach will arrive and make the transition from the Brazilian team to coach Ancelotti, who will take over there for the Copa América.”

Real Madrid surely have to plan for next year with the possibility that Ancelotti may leave.

Real Madrid decide on former midfielder

Recent report from Radio MARCA indicates that current Bayer Leverkusen manager and former Los Blancos midfielder Xavi Alonso has been chosen by the club.

Xabi Alonso is currently doing a stellar job with the Bundesliga side.

In five league games this season, the 41-year-old’s side have managed four victories and a draw, scoring 17 goals which is only bettered by defending champions Bayern Munich.

The former midfielder spent five season at the Spanish capital from 2009 to 2014, and was part of the record winning ‘La Decima’ side.

Having recently renewed his contract with Bayer Leverkusen until 2026, Real Madrid would have to convince the coach and his club if they want to sign him next year.
