Real Madrid’s left back position has been a talking point since the Marcelo era came to a halt.

Under manager Zinedine Zidane, Los Blancos signed French left back Ferland Mendy from Lyon for a reported fee of 48 million euros in 2019.

Mendy is already in his fifth season at the Spanish club, but injuries are a major concern.

In his time at the Spanish capital, he has suffered twelve different injuries, keeping him out for fifty eight games for club and country.

Real Madrid decided to bring in former player Fran Garcia back from Rayo Vallecano after three seasons.

The young Spaniard has started the season as the first choice in the aforementioned position with Mendy out through a muscle injury.

Thinking long term, Real Madrid definitely need to strengthen certain positions. Marca have reported that the left back position is one of the desired areas.

Furthermore, Alphonso Davies is Real Madrid’s priority for the left back position but no moves have been made yet.

The 14-time European champions are only monitoring his contract situation at Bayern and are aware of his agent’s recent statements praising the club.

Real also want to avoid any tension with Bayern. The German club still insist on extending the player’s contract.

The Canadian fits the Real Madrid project and has previously shown interest in Real Madrid. He is not the only one on the club’s radar, but he is the one they consider most appropriate of them all and the most necessary.

Alphonso joined Bayern in 2018 from American club Vancouver for a fee of 14 million euros according to TransferMarkt.
