In an electrifying encounter, Real Madrid secured their place in the Spanish Super Cup final with a thrilling 5-3 victory over city rivals Atletico Madrid. The match, played at the All-Awwal Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, went into extra time after finishing 3-3 in regular time.

Atletico Madrid took an early lead in the 6th minute through Mario Hermoso’s header from a corner delivered by Antoine Griezmann. However, Real Madrid responded in the 20th minute when Antonio Rudiger nodded home Luka Modric’s corner to make it 1-1.

Ferland Mendy then put Real Madrid ahead in the 29th minute with a well-worked team goal, but Atletico quickly leveled the score at 2-2 just before halftime. Antoine Griezmann showcased individual brilliance, scoring a sensational goal to become Atletico’s all-time top scorer across all competitions.

The second half continued the end-to-end action, with Atletico taking the lead once again in the 78th minute after a Kepa own goal from a cross by Riquelme. Real Madrid responded fiercely, with Daniel Carvajal equalizing in the 85th minute with a powerful strike into the roof of the net.

As the score stood at 3-3 at the end of regulation time, the match went into extra time. Real Madrid then asserted their dominance, scoring two goals in the 116th and 120th minutes to seal the victory.

Joselu scored in the 116th minute after a Carvajal cross deflected off Savic, leading to an own goal. In the 120th minute, Brahim Diaz capitalized on a hopeful clearance by Joselu, racing past Oblak to convert into an unguarded net.

Real Madrid’s joy was slightly dampened as Diaz received a yellow card for removing his shirt in celebration after the fifth goal.
