In a remarkable acknowledgment of his dedication to advancing quality education, Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. has been appointed as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Education for All. The prestigious distinction was conferred upon him in a ceremony held at the Alfredo Di Stéfano, where he was accompanied by Audrey Azoulay, Director General of UNESCO, and Emilio Butragueño, Director of Institutional Relations of Real Madrid.

Vinicius’s appointment was reinforced by UNESCO, praising his exceptional contribution to educational activities and his commitment to the organization’s ideals. Azoulay highlighted Vinicius as not only an outstanding footballer but also a man devoted from a young age to promoting equal opportunities through education.

Expressing his gratitude, Vinicius, now 23, described being named a Goodwill Ambassador as more than an honor—it is a victory and a lifelong duty. “I want to be recognized as a great player, but also as a citizen who has tried to make a difference. I have been fighting for education since I was 19 years old, and thanks to UNESCO’s support, we are going to have a positive impact on the world,” Vinicius said.

In 2021, the Real Madrid player established the ‘Vini Jr. Institute’ to aid Brazilian children and adolescents from disadvantaged neighborhoods in returning to school. UNESCO lauded the institute for using sports values to inspire students of all backgrounds to pursue education.

Vinicius Jr.’s UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador designation not only celebrates his on-field prowess but also highlights his commendable efforts in effecting positive change through education. As he assumes this role, Vinicius emerges as an inspirational figure, championing equal opportunities and leaving a lasting impact beyond the confines of the football field.
