Real Madrid’s coaching job is one that has been a topic for discussion for many weeks now.

Current manager Carlo Ancelotti has been linked with a move to Brazil in 2024, which could leave a spot vacant in the summer of next year.

A lot of names have been mentioned as suitable replacements, but the one that sounds most recently has been Xabi Alonso’s.

The current Bayer Leverkusen coach, also a former player of Los Blancos has been in the spotlight.

The 41-year-old renewed his contract with the German club in a deal set to keep him at the club until 2026.

Despite this, reports have suggested that if Real Madrid make a move, an agreement could be reached.

Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has weighed in on the situation.

According to Fabrizio, Xabi Alonso has always been considered as someone Real Madrid want at the club. We have to see the manager will be in 2024. We have to respect Ancelotti and the board’s decision. It will take some time but I think Xabi Alonso will be a candidate.

Real boss Carlo Ancelotti was asked on Tuesday about his former player taking up the role after his departure: “I know him, I had him as a player. He has a huge football knowledge, doing great at Leverkusen. I wish him, like Raúl or Arbeloa, one day to coach Real Madrid. Because it’s the best. I love them very much. Hopefully one day they can coach this club.”

The Spaniard currently sits on top of the Bundesliga table after matchday five, level on points with Bayern Munich.
