In a recent press conference ahead of Real Madrid’s clash with Granada, Carlo Ancelotti shared his dissatisfaction with the upcoming fixture schedule.

Addressing the late kickoff on Thursday, December 21, at 21:30h in Vitoria, Ancelotti voiced concerns about the chilly conditions and questioned the logic behind the timing, stating, “It doesn’t make sense, as some players will have their vacations cut short. It could have been played a bit earlier.”

Adding an intriguing twist, Ancelotti pointed out that the match on December 21 against Alavés coincides with the final decision on the Superliga.

On this day, the European Court of Justice will determine whether UEFA can monopolize the organization of European competitions. Ancelotti hinted at the potential significance of this date coinciding with a crucial decision in football governance.

Taking the opportunity to address concerns about Jude Bellingham’s fitness, Ancelotti dispelled any alarms raised during the morning training session. Bellingham ran solo and then proceeded to exercise in the facilities of Ciudad Real Madrid.

Ancelotti clarified, “He is ready to play. There’s no problem. He’s a bit tired and had a minor ankle issue. We preferred to avoid contact. He’s a spectacular player, fantastic. We are delighted with him, and he is highly respected for the work he can do.”

Regarding the return of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Ancelotti announced his availability and mentioned plans to discuss his involvement, stating, “He is available. He trained today for the first time and has already received medical clearance. Tomorrow, we will go with Lunin, and then he will have a week to prepare for the match against Real Betis.”

Ancelotti also addressed questions about Toni Kroos, stating that the decision regarding his playing time is up to the player.

He praised Kroos’s consistent performance and affirmed that Kroos continues with his usual style of play, saying, “The decision will be his because he has all the resources to make the most correct decision. He is very beloved here, he knows it… and continues with the continuity in the usual game. He is doing very well, and I think all the players I have placed beside him, nothing has changed. His level is the same.”

In response to a question about who Jude Bellingham resembles more among football legends like Di Stéfano, Zidane, or Cruyff, Ancelotti drew parallels to Kaká. He expressed surprise at Bellingham’s abilities, stating, “I’m surprised with him, similar to the first time I saw Kaká. Not that he resembles Kaká, but he has things of Kaká.”

Ancelotti also touched on the topic of a forward during the Christmas period, emphasizing that it’s a separate issue, and the club’s approach to the squad has been fantastic, with injuries being a challenge primarily due to the schedule, stating, “No, it’s a completely different matter. The club’s approach to the squad has been fantastic; injuries are a problem of the schedule.”

Regarding Antonio Rüdiger, Ancelotti praised the defender’s concentration, positive attitude, and intelligence in positioning, considering him a perfect fit for the team, stating, “In all the games, he has demonstrated concentration, a very good attitude, and intelligence to take positions. A perfect center-back for us.”

On the versatility of Federico Valverde, Ancelotti acknowledged that it’s challenging to pinpoint where Valverde contributes the most, as he excels in various roles such as winger, midfielder, or pivot, showcasing his completeness and significant contributions.

Ancelotti said, “It’s difficult to say where Valverde contributes more. Because he does it wherever I put him: winger, interior, pivot… he’s very complete. He contributes a lot in many facets. Scoring goals, giving energy, quality. He is fundamental.”

Ancelotti concluded by discussing the performance of youth player Nico Paz, highlighting the readiness of academy players like Gonzalo, Mario Martín, or Theo Zidane to step in when needed.

Ancelotti emphasized giving priority to the first team while expecting the academy talents to perform at the level demonstrated by Nico Paz in recent appearances, stating, “Nico Paz, the other day, did very well. The academy players who are with us are prepared to play. When Gonzalo, Mario Martín, or Theo Zidane come out, they will do well. But I have to give priority to the first team, as I have always said. They must perform as Nico did.”
