Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Kepa Arrizabalaga will reclaim the goalkeeper position in the upcoming Champions League clash against Union Berlin. This decision follows Kepa’s recovery from a muscular injury, sidelining him for the last two matches.

Ancelotti had initially hinted at Kepa’s return in LaLiga but continued with impressive performances from Andriy Lunin, via Mundo Deportivo.

Reflecting on the goalkeeper situation, Ancelotti stated, “Kepa Arrizabalaga didn’t need to prove himself; he has done it throughout his career. Lunin’s recent form has been excellent, but we must consider that Kepa has consistently performed well in the games he played.

“It’s not about fairness or unfairness in benching someone. It would be unfair every game. The positive aspect is that Lunin got the chance he hadn’t had before to consistently showcase his skills, and he performed well.

“This is beneficial for him and, above all, for us as we are pleased to have a reliable goalkeeper.” Ancelotti remarked, keeping his choice for the upcoming LaLiga match against Villarreal under wraps.

The coach kept his choice for the upcoming LaLiga match against Villarreal under wraps. Regarding academy player Nico Paz, Ancelotti remained ambiguous, saying, “He might be in the starting eleven. I will assess it after training.”

Ancelotti emphasized Real Madrid’s status as perennial Champions League contenders, stating, “We have the quality to compete until the end. Real Madrid is always a candidate to win this competition. We’ve performed very well in the group stage. Winning the Champions League is always challenging.”
