The La Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional (La Liga) has brought attention to several incidents that occurred during the match between Getafe and Real Madrid at the Coliseum, a game rescheduled due to the Super Cup of Spain.

According to LaLiga’s statement (via Marca), intolerant chants were detected among the crowd via social media as the visiting team arrived.

These chants, which included derogatory terms like “hijos de puta” (sons of b*tches) and “Vinicius, mono” (Vinicius, monkey), along with the chant “Puta Real Madrid” (F*ck Real Madrid), were sung by numerous local fans.

LaLiga has also reported racist insults directed at Vinicius that occurred outside the stadium, which have been referred to the Hate Crimes Prosecutor’s Office.

Additionally, there were allegations of a potential insult (“rapist”) directed by Jude Bellingham towards Mason Greenwood during the game. Post-match, social media posts regarding this incident prompted LaLiga’s attention, with widespread media coverage.

Furthermore, there were insults directed at Dani Ceballos by a section of the Getafe crowd. During the 60th minute of the match, a group of local fans chanted “es un paleto, Ceballos es un paleto” (he’s a country bumpkin, Ceballos is a country bumpkin) towards the visiting player.

Despite these incidents, LaLiga commended Getafe’s prompt response, activating established protocols and issuing a clear message through the stadium’s public address system. The club emphasized its stance against any acts or chants inciting violence, racism, xenophobia, or intolerance in sports, a message reiterated on the stadium’s video screens.

These incidents underscore the ongoing challenges of combating intolerance and discrimination in football, highlighting the importance of collective efforts from clubs, leagues, and authorities to ensure an inclusive and respectful sporting environment.

Moving forward, La Liga has indicated its intent to thoroughly investigate the incidents and take appropriate disciplinary action against any individuals found to have engaged in discriminatory behavior or misconduct.

The league’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the sport extends beyond mere condemnation, emphasizing the importance of accountability and enforcement to deter future occurrences and safeguard the reputation of Spanish football.
